What should I do after I call the police about my car accident?
While you should be cooperative with the police and follow their instructions, don’t simply rely on police officers to investigate your accident. They are trained to investigate accidents, but you might find evidence they overlooked. Gather evidence. This includes talking to anyone who witnessed your accident. Make sure you get that person’s full name, address and phone number. Also ask the police to interview the witness. Evidence builds strong cases. The more information you have about your case, the better. Take notes about the weather conditions at the time of your accident, if the street lights were working, if there are any skid marks from the other vehicle. Every detail matters.
