Michael J. Gopin has practiced law in El Paso since 1987. Even after more than 30 years, he still remembers his first jury case. It was two weeks after receiving his license, when he represented a person whose life had been forever changed after being blinded in a work-related incident. “We convinced the jury to agree with us and received a favorable verdict,” he remembers.

This victory has stuck with him, and he is proud to have continued to build a long list of satisfied clients ever since. Michael has successfully handled countless cases of medical malpractice, product liability, personal injury, and nursing home negligence. He enjoys helping people “get their lives back in order” by providing high-quality legal representation and compassionate customer service.

Michael especially likes leveling the playing field for individuals who find themselves in disputes against huge insurance companies. His law firm has earned a reputation for having the experience and the resources to go to battle against large insurers that try to delay, deny, or devalue legitimate claims.

But that’s not the only way Michael and his law firm make a difference. For about five years, he has worked with KFOX14-TV on its charitable “Pay It Forward” campaign, doing good works around the community. Examples of the firm’s contributions include raising money for the American Cancer Society in a ping-pong contest, filling up motorists’ gas tanks, purchasing customers’ groceries, or cleaning up a veteran’s yard and upgrading his air conditioner.

“I go all over the city and do nice things for people, just to make people smile and have a better day. It’s rewarding,” he says.

A native of Chicago, Michael moved to El Paso when he was 11. His uncle is a personal injury attorney, and Michael first became intrigued with the idea of practicing law as a teenager, when he served as a judge in a mock trial at Coronado High School.

He graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1983 with a bachelor of business administration, majoring in accounting. He received his juris doctorate degree from St. Mary’s School of Law in San Antonio.

Michael and his wife, Dawn, have six children. His two siblings and extended family also live in El Paso.

“We’re committed to the people of El Paso and the area,” he says.

When he is not working on a case, Michael is a three-time national table tennis champion and avid traveler. “I’ve been to a good percentage of the world,” he says, noting that India and New Zealand are two of the places left on his bucket list.

He’s proud of the mark the Law Offices of Michael J. Gopin, PLLC, has made around El Paso, through three locations and a large staff ready to visit clients any time of the day or night.
